3 Reasons to Simplify Your Fitness Routine

I'm not sure about you, but I am MUCH more likely to stick with something when it is simplified. Today there are so many fitness programs, workout classes and to be frank... gimmicks out there that it might make you want to just quit altogether.

I have simplified my fitness routine and I feel so much better. I feel like I am making more "gains" than I did when I was being distracted by every program out there that I thought I should try.

Since I am a minimalist, I tend to function better when there are just fewer choices. Here are three reasons and ways to simplify your fitness routine.

+ Reason #1: We are creatures of habit.

Most people are creatures of habit, I'm not a betting woman but if I were, I'd put my money on about 80% of people. Wake up...pray...coffee...news...social media...workout. Most people have the same or a similar schedule every day.

My suggestion would be to find a fitness routine that you enjoy and master it. I'm not saying you can't try other things, but I think trying to commit to a regular routine (especially if you are new to working out) will help you get into a groove and master your routine.

+ Reason #2: We enjoy things we are good at.

We all enjoy doing things that we are good at. For instance, when you finally nail that handstand, you do them all the time. Ran a PR 5k? You immediately sign up for your next. Simplifying your fitness routine will help you get really good and confident at your sport of choice.

Now, I am always up for a challenge but when I start feeling burnt out, getting back to basics and simplifying my routine is essential. Once you find the fitness routine that you enjoy, commit to doing it at least 4-5 times a week. Consistency is very important to creating a habit and to getting the results and improvements you are seeking.

+ Reason #3: Simplicity reduces stress.

When we have a fitness routine in place, we don't have to stress about figuring out what we are going to do. We simply look at our scheduled workout and do it. I am well aware that life can get in the way, but at least if you have something planned you are more likely to do it than if you had nothing planned at all.

Make a commitment to yourself to find a fitness routine you enjoy, schedule each workout for 4 weeks and see if your exercise stress isn't alleviated if even just  a little.
