How To Make a Home Gym in a Small Space
After several years of dreaming, l was finally able to get a space in our home for my own home gym. I really love the convenience of being able to workout at home. All I have to do is get up and head down to the basement for my workouts. Before I was able to expand my home gym I still mostly worked out at home. I only had a small space but I was still able to get an excellent workout. Today I want to share with you how to make a home gym...even if you have a small space and/or are on a budget!
The first thing you will need to make your home gym is obviously space and equipment. For me, the best place to do my workouts before I had a basement was in the living room. I would move the coffee table aside and bring out the equipment I needed for my workout. The great thing about the equipment I am going to share is it can all be stored away in a closet or under the bed.
To make a home gym you do not need a ton of fancy, expensive equipment. Before I have the home gym that I have now, I worked out at home with only these items. I also took advantage of the great outdoors to take a walk or go for a run.
The first thing I like to have in a home gym is a yoga mat. This is especially true if you life in a place that does not have carpet. Yoga mat's are very versatile and you can use them for anything from yoga to Pilates even simple ab work.
I think the most important thing to have is a set of dumbbells...2 sets if possible a light pair and a heavier pair. Dumbbells can be used for a countless amount of strength training exercises. Check out my Workout category here for a few ideas.
Resistance bands are great because you can perform many of the same exercises that you would use dumbbells for. You might be surprised of what a great workout you can get with resistance bands. Another bonus is they are portable and great to take along with you when traveling.
This Ab roller gives you a killer ab workout in no time flat! I can't even make it through a five-minute workout with this thing. It's truly a great ab machine.
A medicine ball is another great piece of equipment for strength training. I love using it for squats and core workouts
I love using ankle weights for fine toning exercises such as leg lifts, donkey kicks and walking lunges. I also wear them when I for walks for extra resistance.
So there you have it my friends how you can also make a home gym...even if you have a small space and/or are on a budget! All of these items are small and affordable. You can even find some of them at second-hand stores, garage sells and online sales like Craigslist Ads.
So tell me,
Do you have a home gym?
Do you prefer to workout at the gym or at home?
