What Community Is To Me
As a blogger, I am continuously aiming to improve my blog for you and for me. I always read about how your blog and social media presence should be about community and not just having followers. I have to say that I agree with this, and from the time I started my blog all I ever wanted was to build a community of like-minded people even if it was a small one.
By definition in the context of this post a community is "a group of people who have the same interests, religion, race, etc." (Merriam-Webster) I'll agree that we have the same interests but scratch the religion and race. To me, a community is SO much more than this Merriam-Webster. A community is;
A place where you can be yourself.
I believe a community is a place where you can be yourself flaws and all. In a real community, you do not have to pretend to be someone you are not for people to like you. Everyone brings their own uniqueness to the group and that's what make a community interesting and a great place to belong.
You have support.
A great thing about a community is there are people in the community who you can confide in. In my ideal community, people will not judge you, they will simply be there to listen to you, pray for you and help you along. Many times there may even be someone who has been through what you are currently going through and can offer some sound advice.
You are wanted and missed.
When you are a part of a community especially mine, you are wanted and when you are not there you are missed! I can say in all honesty when my regular visitors don't comment or interact on social media I miss them and wonder what's going on with them.
This even goes for people I follow, if I don't see them posting I often drop them a comment just to see if everything is ok and let them know they are in my heart.
Somewhere that you feel welcomed.
Lastly, a community is a place where you come and feel welcomed. People are glad you are there and they make you feel comfortable. I want anyone who is a part of my community to feel welcomed. No matter your race, religion, fitness level, whatever!
I'm Black, I love Jesus and I'm active. That does not mean I won't love you the same if you are not. John 13:35 reads: 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” My job is not to judge, it is to love!
So on that note, I want to say thank you for being a part of MY little Community.
What is a community to you?
