As a person who exercises on a regular basis having a good skin care routine is essential. It doesn't matter if I've done an indoor workout, have been outdoors on a hike or run, or even just stayed home and relaxed all day, my skin routine is the same.  Today I want to share with you 3 ways I keep my skin healthy while staying active.

These are things I do on a daily, and nightly basis to ensure I am doing what I can to keep my skin healthy. Creating a healthy skin routine is an important part of a healthy lifestyle.

A little bonus tip before I even get into the 3 Ways I Keep My Skin Healthy While Staying Active: Try not to ever exercise with make-up on!. When you are sweating and wiping sweat from your face, the last thing you want to do is rub dirty makeup into your skin and pores. Exercising with a clean face allows your skin to breathe and gives you a chance to sweat out toxins.

I wash off my makeup every evening.

As I mentioned above you should try to remove your makeup before exercising but also remove it every night. Since you don't want to exercise in makeup, you most definitely don't want to sleep in it! I like to use a warm washcloth or a make-up remover wipe to gently remove all of my make-up before thoroughly cleansing it. I am in such a habit of washing my face at night I literally can't fall asleep until I've done it.

I'm gentle with my skin and don't over cleanse.

I try to treat my skin the way I would treat a baby's skin. I wash it gently, I use gentle products and I try not to scrub it too much. In the past I would wash my face 3 times a day, now I only wash it morning and night.

My morning skincare routine is usually just doing a quick wash, moisturizer and sunblock. At night I do a little more, I wash, tone, treat, and hydrate. I've learned through trial and error that cleansing your skin too much strips it of natural oils and bacteria and isn't good for the skin.

I've recently been using Mother Dirt products which help restore and maintain good bacteria on your skin. These products are gentle and do not strip your skin and make it feel dry.

Drink water and eat a healthy diet.

Out of all of the tips I mentioned this is probably the one that changed my skin the most. Reducing sugar, processed foods and drinks with added sugar REALLY improved my skin. Fueling your body with healthy foods within really shows on the outside as well. I also like to take a daily probiotic which I believe also helped with clearing up my skin.

Here is a current photo where I am wearing just a tinted moisturizer on my skin. I can truly say these tips have improved my skin so much!
