Simple Smoothie Recipes

Simple Smoothie Recipes

My cousin called me and asked for some smoothie recipes that actually taste good. I decided to write them here for her, and share them with the rest of you as well. I drink a smoothie everyday and am always trying to improve the flavor (make them taste the least green as possible haha). Most of my smoothies only require 3-4 ingredients. I also add a vegan protein supplement to my smoothies and some nuts and seeds from time to time but this isn't required.

Some of my basic smoothie rules.

Over time I have learned some methods that help my smoothies come out with the best texture and not super chunky.

1. Add enough liquid but not too much. Start with a small amount of liquid and add more if you need it. Don't start with too much because your smoothie will come out like juice.

2. Use frozen fruit and veggies. These make the smoothie cold and thicker. Add your fruit and veggies to the blender first, then add your protein powder, then any seeds and nuts and finally pour over the liquid.

3. Blend the fruit and veggies with the protein and any other ingredients a little before adding your ice. I find that this helps everything blend together better.

Strawberry, Banana & Spinach

1/2 cup of frozen strawberries

1/2 frozen banana

2 cups baby spinach

Protein supplement *optional

water or almond milk (enough to cover the ingredients remember, not too much)

*the strawberries are a little harder to blend may require a little more liquid.

**You can always use other greens besides spinach for these recipes. I like spinach because it has the least green taste and it is easy to blend and hide in any smoothie. Mixed greens is also a great option. Also feel free to leave out the greens and add more fruit instead.

At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.

Add-in Ideas.

It's always a good idea to get the most nutritional boost out of your smoothies. Here are some items you can add to make them even better:

Green superfood powder

Maca powder

Ground Flax seeds

Chia seeds

Organic yogurt

Coconut water or milk

Peanut butter or Almond butter

Organic Oats

Collagen Peptides

All of these can be found online or at your local health food grocery store. I like shopping at vitacost, amazon, thrive market and swanson vitamins for these items.

Well I hope this gave you a few ideas of how to make some simple smoothies that taste delicious.
