My Favorite Plant Based Protein Source
These days my taste for meat isn't as strong as it used to be. I still eat meat but sometimes I can go a day or two without having any. Lately, I find it harder to digest meat and I feel like it just kinda sits in my stomach after I eat it. I have a very sensitive stomach and also suffer from GERD which I have mentioned here before. So eating things that are easy to digest is very important to me.
Anyway, I still like to get an adequate amount of protein in my diet and I have been able to do that with the help of plant based foods such as nuts and seeds. About two years ago I was introduced to hemp seeds. Prior to this, I only knew about another kind of hemp, you know the one I'm talking about... But hemp seeds on the other hand are:
A while back I had the opportunity to work on a blog campaign with Manitoba Harvest and I fell in love with their Hemp Hearts. I even went on to become an ambassador for the brand which I am still. I put these hemp hearts on everything I think they would be good on. This includes smoothies, waffles, pancakes, oatmeal and more.
Each serving of hemp hearts has 10 grams of protein per 30-gram serving, they contain twice the amount of protein compared to flax or chia, and they’re lower in carbohydrates. I love how versatile and light these are. Sometimes I even eat them by the handful.
I don't know about you, but it wasn't until recently that I realized that you could get protein from other sources than from meat. I'm glad our God thought of everything in the beginning that's for sure!
