2017 Reflections

Thanks 2017.

To be fair, some really crazy stuff happened in 2017. We all know the headlines, and everyday my thoughts and prayers go out for our world and man kind. I pray that things will get better and God's comfort will surround people who have been affected.

As I took time and reflected over 2017 and how things were in MY life as a whole, it was a pretty good year. I started the year off by getting a great promotion at my job and I am so blessed for that. I spent the last year really getting immersed and learning my new job and to be honest that is why my blogging fell a little to the way side. I never wanted to stop blogging completely but I needed to step back and focus on what "brings home the bacon" if you can understand that.

Speaking of blogging, it opened up some great opportunities for me in 2017. I worked with some really great brands as an ambassador including Skirt Sports, which I was able to do a photoshoot for their Find Your Box program and have been featured in some of their marketing materials. I was selected as a Women's Health Magazine Action Hero 2017 which was a great honor. I also worked with some great health food brands including Manitoba Harvest and Larabar. 

I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried a bunch of new fitness classes in 2017. In the past besides teaching classes as a fitness instructor, I never really attended many. I usually like to workout on my own. I wanted to try some new workouts and I did. I found that I really enjoyed doing Barre and it is a super tough workout.

In 2017 I was also able to address and start overcoming some health challenges. I have suffered with GERD or Acid Reflux Disease for a very long time. I have also been on meds for it for as long as I can remember. Taking those meds really started catching up with me this year. I decided to seek help in order to get off of the meds and take a more natural approach to managing this disease. With the help of a functional medicine doc, some allergy tests, and prayer, I feel like I am on the road to getting this under control, naturally and it feels really good. 

I also received some clarity at the end of 2017 and made some huge decisions, socially. I decided to delete my Instagram, Facebook and YouTube accounts associated with this blog and start over. My interests have changed this year and so have the things I want to put out into the social atmosphere. It was scary deleting my accounts, especially Instagram because I had grown it to nearly 8000 followers! I have started a new Instagram which will give a more personal look into my life as well as share wellness and simple living content. You can follow the new account here if you want.  

[ Edit ] I received some questions about how it has felt starting my account over and here is my answer: I feel like it was a fresh start and I can start connecting with people I really want to connect with and who want to connect with me. When I started my other account I was a part of a lot of follow threads and people followed me because I followed them and it wasn't a genuine relationship and that showed in the engagement. I also felt trapped in the "fitness" space with my old account, starting over is allowing me to share more of myself and gaining followers who want to see all aspects and not just fitness stuff. I have seen more engagement than I did with my 7k account. 

Sometimes I miss the people I connected with before. I have followed some people again and some of them have not followed back. That shows me they weren't interested in the whole me, just the fitness part and that's fine. But I am now at a point in my life that I am posting for me and to share and encourage not just to gain followers for attention or to get brand deals. [ End Edit ]

I was also able to do some traveling in 2017. I took a few work trips and I was able to visit my best friends in Arizona and my cousin in Austin for a few days. I love seeing my friends and family but I've decided I really don't like traveling. I like my own house.  

Hi 2018.

I am really looking forward to what 2018 has in store. I am going into this new year with a new attitude and new expectations. I want this to be a year that I really stick to goals I set for myself and make a change in the world even if just a small one.
